STEVE BELLO – Postcards From Mars

Steve Bello

Prog metal is a genre I just started discovering. At the moment, I’m listening to Steve Bello’s instrumental “Postcards From Mars” taken from his freshly released album “Layers Of Time”.

This is so different from what I’ve ever heard before. Steve Bello is a guitar virtuoso, playing unearthly solos, with spacey techniques and key changes. It all results in this ‘offworldish’ effect. Sometimes the solos seem to float above the rhythm somehow. To my straightforward-metal-brain, this song sounds so foreign and intriguing. Playing it over and over, I’m still trying to put my finger on what is happening.

Not the “standard” metal I’m used to. But I must admit, I like this. “Postcards From Mars” definitely got me more into prog. And it’s keeping me very busy, to say the least. 😉
